Some printer connection problems are the result of badly connected cables. Make sure that the printer’s power cord is plugged into a mains socket and that the printer cable is properly connected to the computer.
If your printer is connected to a USB port on your computer, check to see if the USB connection is at fault. Run the Windows Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to see if it can automatically fix the problem:
- Click the Start button, and in the search box, type troubleshooting. From the list of results, click Troubleshooting
- In the Hardware and Sound section, click Configure a device.
- Follow the instructions onscreen to see if that solves the problem.
- If damaged or outdated, your printer’s driver can disrupt communication between your PC and the printer. Installing the latest driver will resolve many problems. Use Windows Update to download and install a driver or search for the latest driver on the printer manufacturer’s website.
